I am an avid reader of newspaper articles, especially those ones that criticize government and corrupt officials. And so I have been inoculated into that strain of millions of Nigerians who blame Government for their woes, who are trapped in the valley of despondency and see nothing beyond the hills.
However, owing to a recent elucidation I have withdrawn from that school of thought and choose instead to be thankful for the state of our nation. If not for those politicians we would fall into anarchy and things would be much worse.
Yes, they have failed us and have turned those seats of power into seats of loot and corrupt practices. Nevertheless we ought to realize that God has worked a long time and very patiently to bring us to where we are in industry and in government, and He is going right on with His work. There is not the least doubt that He will do away with plutocrats, trust magnates, captains of industry and politicians as soon as they can be spared, but in the meantime they are all very necessary. No one is spared judgment and we have seen this proven time and again. Isn't the night darkest just before morning?
Instead, we can only go forward by supporting a new movement - The campaign about Rebranding. Now by “Rebranding” I mean that we change our collective attitude into a whole new optimistic outlook - A proactive sense of living with integrity. We should remember those immortal words of John F. Kennedy “Ask not what your Country can do for you; Ask rather what YOU can do for your Country”. Let us invoke the original Nigerian spirit of true patriotism.
If I, for example am able to influence two people with this piece, and they each go on to influence two people, that might just be the start we need.
Transformation begins with the mind, and in time it shows on the outside. So let us renew our mind. Fill it with thoughts. Big thoughts of a possible Vision 20:2020, of a Nigeria playing its rightful role on the world stage... of a Nigeria we all dream of.
And with these big thoughts, these little steps, we will realize that really, power has always been with us - the people.
**Post Script: I’d like to acknowledge the book by Wallace D. Wattles – “The Science of Getting Rich”. It educated me on the potency of positive thinking.
